Macon's strengths are music history and archaeology. The Allman Brothers Band, Otis Redding, and Little Richard all grew up or worked here, and the city takes its musical heritage seriously: the Big House museum, Capricorn Sound Studios, and various monument sites are all within reach of downtown. Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park — just east of downtown — is the most significant Native American archaeological site in Georgia and well worth a morning. The Hay House and the cherry trees round out a city that rewards a full day.
