Plains Historic District

A single block of brick storefronts along Main Street, most dating from around 1900 — the boomlet that followed the arrival of the railroad in 1885. The buildings have been carefully preserved and now house antique stores, gift shops, a small museum, and the obligatory peanut-themed souvenir shop.

The walk from one end to the other takes ten minutes. Several storefronts have window displays of campaign memorabilia and Carter-family artefacts. The pace is slow; locals will often stop to chat about the Carters or their own connections to the family.
