Ed Jenkins National Recreation Area

The 23,000-acre national recreation area surrounding Springer Mountain, established in 1991 and named for a Georgia congressman who pushed for its protection. The area covers most of the northwest face of the Blue Ridge in Georgia, including the headwaters of the Toccoa River and the Cohutta foothills.

Hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing are all permitted, and a dense network of Forest Service roads and trails runs through it. Most of the area is undeveloped wilderness with no facilities; the main visitor access is via the Springer summit and Three Forks. Maps are available at the Amicalola Falls visitor centre and the Chattahoochee National Forest ranger stations in Blue Ridge and Dahlonega.
