Buzz's, across the bridge from Kailua Beach Park, has been grilling steaks and serving mai tais since 1967, with the kind of unbroken continuity that is increasingly rare on Oahu. The dining room is open-air and wood-panelled, the menu sticks to the classics — steak, fish, garlic shrimp, all with a salad bar — and the bar mixes properly strong cocktails.
The kitchen is reliable rather than inventive: this is the place to come for a good cut of fish or a steak after a day on the beach, not to be wowed by modern Hawaiian cuisine. Reservations are needed; the place is small and consistently full. Cash and traveller's-cheque mythology aside, they take credit cards now.
