Island Lava Java is the town's most popular breakfast and brunch spot, occupying a covered lanai right on Ali'i Drive with tables looking out over the bay. The coffee is excellent — 100% Kona grown, properly brewed — and the breakfast plates are generous: eggs Benedict, acai bowls, banana pancakes, and a good selection of fresh fruit.
Come early or expect a wait; the place fills up by 8am on weekends. Lunch is also served and similarly good, with fish tacos and burgers joining the breakfast holdovers. The setting, shaded from the midday sun with the sound of the water a few metres away, is hard to beat.
