Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge protects the northern tip of Kaua'i, where seabirds wheel over steep ocean cliffs and the historic lighthouse anchors the headland. It is one of the island's best places to see nesting or soaring seabirds without a long hike.
The refuge now uses a reservation system, so check entry requirements before driving up. Once inside, the visit is straightforward: a short paved walk, big coastal views, and plenty of time watching the sky and water. Bring binoculars if you have them; this is a place where slowing down pays off.
