Maui has beaches to suit every taste: the long, calm resort strips at Kāʻanapali and Wailea; the wild exposure of Mākena (Big Beach); the intimate snorkelling coves at Kapalua and Honolua; the black sand drama of Waʻanapanapa; and the hidden red cinder bay at Kaihalulu near Hāna. The south and west coasts are generally calm; the north shore beaches are managed by the wind and are for swimmers with experience.
