Basque Museum and Cultural Center

The Basque Museum and Cultural Center on the Grove anchors Boise's Basque Block with a genuine collection of artifacts, photographs, and oral histories documenting the migration of Basque shepherds to Idaho from the late 19th century onward. The museum occupies a restored 1864 boarding house — one of the oldest buildings in Boise — that served as the first home for newly arrived Basque immigrants.

The collection covers traditional Basque pastoral life, the crossing to America, the sheep industry in Idaho and Nevada, and the cultural institutions (social clubs, dance troupes, pelota courts) that kept the community together across generations. It is a small but well-curated museum that tells a story most Americans don't know. Entry is inexpensive; guided tours are available on weekdays.
