Despite the name, the Sun Valley Opera House was built in 1937 as a movie theatre for guests of the new resort. It has a single screen and the original wooden interior, and it has been running pretty much continuously ever since.
The Sound of Music plays here on a loop several afternoons a week — a tradition started for resort guests in the 1960s that the management never bothered to stop. The rest of the schedule is a mix of new releases and classics. It is one of the most pleasant places in the country to watch a film.
