Land of Limestone Exhibit

The Land of Limestone exhibit, housed in the old Indiana Limestone Company building on Bedford's north side, is a small but careful museum about the quarrying industry that built the town. Tools, photographs, and stone samples tell the story of how oolitic limestone is cut, shaped, and shipped, and how the local industry has shifted over a century.

The exhibit also covers the personal side of the trade — the cutters, carvers, and mill workers, many of them Italian immigrants whose grandchildren still live in Bedford. Admission is free and the staff are happy to point you toward the cemeteries and quarry sites that bring the rest of the story to life.
