Greyhound Hall of Fame

The national museum of greyhound racing, with retired greyhounds in residence

A single, quirky museum dedicated to the history of greyhound racing — fitting for a state that was for decades the centre of the American industry. The displays trace the sport from Coursing Club days through the dog tracks of the twentieth century, with trophies, racing silks, and lots of photographs of famous dogs. Inductees to the hall of fame include over 100 humans and dogs, the latter typically with longer pedigrees than the former.

The best part is the retired racing greyhounds who live at the museum, two at a time, and act as official greeters. You can pet them, and the staff are happy to talk about adoption. Admission is free; donations welcome. Across the road from the Eisenhower complex, so easy to combine.
