Rip Van Winkle Gardens is a lush garden estate on Jefferson Island, wrapped around the Joseph Jefferson Mansion and overlooking Lake Peigneur. The setting mixes live oaks, palms, flowers, peacocks, and a very Louisiana sense of water and story.
It is one of the stronger excursions around New Iberia, especially if you want something quieter than Avery Island but still rooted in Bayou Teche country. Allow time for both the gardens and the house tour if available.
