The Cabildo is the former Spanish colonial city hall beside Jackson Square, now part of the Louisiana State Museum. It is one of the French Quarter's key historic buildings: the Louisiana Purchase transfer ceremonies were held here in 1803. The museum gives useful context for the colonial city, the transfer to the United States and New Orleans' layered identity.
