Things to Do

New Orleans is a city where the line between sightseeing and living blurs deliberately. The French Quarter is the obvious starting point, but the best of the city is what happens between the landmarks: the street musicians setting up on a corner, the second-line parade that materialises without announcement, the neighbourhood bar where everyone seems to know each other. The city rewards wandering.

Major sights include Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral at the heart of the French Quarter, the St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 with its above-ground vaults, and the National World War II Museum in the Warehouse District — one of the finest history museums in the country. The St. Charles streetcar provides a moving panorama of the city's finest residential architecture. Congo Square in Tremé marks the exact spot where jazz was born.
