City Dock

The working harbour at the heart of the historic district

Annapolis's working harbour, locally known as Ego Alley because boat owners cruise slowly up and down to be admired. The dock is at the foot of Main Street and is the lowest point in the historic district — every street in the old town funnels down to it. Sailboats, water taxis, and tour boats jostle for space year-round, and the Annapolis Boat Shows in October fill the entire basin with hundreds of vessels.

Several seafood restaurants line the dock, all serving the local Chesapeake Bay specialities: blue crab, oysters, and rockfish. The Market House at the head of the dock has been a covered market since 1788 and now houses a handful of casual food stalls. The dock is also the embarkation point for boat tours of the bay and the Severn River.
