New Bedford's historic district is compact and easily walked. The Whaling Museum and Seamen's Bethel are the heart of any visit, but the neighbourhood rewards slower exploration: Federal and Greek Revival mansions, cobblestone streets, and the working waterfront with its fleet of draggers. Fort Taber Park at Clark's Point is worth the drive south for the coastal views and the military ruins.
