Pickering House

One of Salem's oldest houses, tied to generations of the Pickering family.

Pickering House is easy to miss in Salem's louder witch-trial economy, but it is one of the city's deeper historic survivals. The house is associated with the Pickering family across many generations, giving it a continuity that few American domestic buildings can claim.

Visit when open, or at least include it on a walk through Salem's older residential streets. It shifts the city away from souvenir folklore and back toward seafaring wealth, colonial households, and the long civic families that shaped the North Shore.
