Tantiusques is a small Trustees reservation protecting the remains of a historic soapstone quarry used by Native peoples long before European settlement. The old quarry pits and stone fragments sit in quiet woodland, making this a very different historical stop from the costumed village experience Sturbridge is known for.
The trails are short and uneven in places, good for a slow walk rather than a serious hike. Go for the combination of archaeology, forest, and local history; it is understated, but it adds real depth to a Sturbridge visit.
