Jackson is unapologetically Southern food country: catfish, fried chicken, collard greens, hot tamales (a Mississippi Delta staple that travelled south), pimento cheese, and barbecue. The dining scene is concentrated in Fondren and in a handful of downtown classics; there is no shortage of decent places, and a few that are very good.
