Jefferson City is not well-served by public transport. The nearest commercial airports are in St. Louis (about 130 miles east) and Kansas City (about 150 miles west), both roughly two-hour drives. Amtrak's Missouri River Runner train between Kansas City and St. Louis stops at Jefferson City station downtown — two trains in each direction daily, making a day trip from either city feasible. Most visitors arrive by car on US-50 or I-70 (the main interstate runs north of the city, requiring a short jog south on US-54).
