The Nevada State Railroad Museum's Boulder City branch is small but appealing — a collection of restored diesel locomotives and passenger cars used on the line that originally hauled materials to Hoover Dam. Most of the rolling stock is parked outside; a couple of cars are open to walk through.
The main draw is the Nevada Southern Railway excursion, a 35-minute ride on a vintage diesel-pulled train that runs from the museum along a short stretch of the old line on weekends. The trip is gentle and family-friendly, and the older volunteers who run it know the dam-era history in detail. There is also a small indoor museum with model railways and an exhibit on the construction railway through the tunnels.
