The Double Down opened in 1992 on Paradise Road and immediately became the off-Strip dive bar locals send visiting punk fans to. The walls are covered in graffiti — actively encouraged — the soundtrack is loud, and the unofficial house drink is "Ass Juice", a mystery concoction the staff make up and refuse to disclose ingredients for.
There is no cover, no dress code, no closing time. Live punk and ska bands play several nights a week on a low stage at the back; the jukebox covers the gap on quieter nights. The bar pioneered the bacon martini, sells T-shirts that say "Shut up and drink", and proudly displays its slogan: "You puke, you clean." A real Vegas institution, and a good antidote to a long Strip evening.
