Piscataway

Central New Jersey township shaped by Rutgers campuses, suburban neighborhoods, and the Raritan River plain

Piscataway is a township in central New Jersey, adjacent to New Brunswick and best known as the home of several Rutgers University campuses — Busch Campus and Livingston Campus are both here, along with the university's football stadium and basketball arena. The area is heavily suburban, dominated by corporate office parks along Route 1 and Hoes Lane.

As a destination it offers two sites worth a detour from New Brunswick: the East Jersey Olde Towne Village, an open-air museum of colonial-era buildings on the Raritan riverbank, and the Rutgers Ecological Preserve, 360 acres of woodland trails threading between the university's campuses. The Cornelius Low House, a Georgian mansion of 1741 now serving as the Middlesex County Museum, stands on a bluff above the river a short walk from the village.

Things to Do

Piscataway's two sites worth a special trip are East Jersey Olde Towne Village and the Rutgers Ecological Preserve. Both are free to enter and take you well away from the corporate office parks that dominate most of the township.
