Hillcrest Park, on the eastern edge of town, is the largest public green space in Clovis and a good place to walk in the cooler hours of the day. The 1939–40 stone archway over the entrance road, built with Works Progress Administration money, is on the National Register and is a fine piece of New Deal architecture.
Inside the park is the small Hillcrest Park Zoo — Clovis was a stop on the old AT&SF route and a few of the original WPA-era enclosures are still in use — plus a swimming pool, picnic shelters, and a public golf course at the back. Free; busiest at weekends.
