Mesalands Dinosaur Museum

The Mesalands Dinosaur Museum, part of Mesalands Community College on the west side of town, is a much better museum than its size suggests. The collection focuses on Mesozoic fossils from eastern New Mexico and the Texas panhandle — Triassic Coelophysis, Late Cretaceous duckbills — and the bronze casts the museum is famous for producing.

Plan on 60–90 minutes. The hands-on sections work well with children and the gift shop sells small bronze replicas if you fancy a heavy souvenir. Closed Sundays and Mondays.

A story
The museum's claim to fame is the world's largest collection of bronze dinosaur casts — cast in the on-site foundry from real fossil skeletons. The technique was developed at Mesalands and is still used to ship replicas to museums around the world.
