Buffalo, New York has the distinction of having so much to do around the city. There probably won’t be enough time for you to get to as many places as you would like. Niagara Falls and the Finger Lakes are a short distance away.
Niagara Falls
It will only take you twenty minutes to get to Niagara Falls from Buffalo. Take time to see the natural wonder of the world and you can visit both the American side and the more popular Canadian Side. Be sure to have proper paperwork if going to Canada. You need a current passport or Birth Certificate to prove you were born in the US. It should be noted that not everyone that crosses the border into Canada is checked but in case you are, be sure to have these documents.
Take a ride on the Maid of the Mist or take a look at all the gardens especially on the Canadian Side. There are tons of attractions to see in Niagara Falls that you shouldn’t miss and it isn’t so far away from Buffalo that you can’t stick around until night fall to see the magnificent views of the falls lit with different colored lights.
Chautauqua
Another place you can go and visit in one day is to Chautauqua. This little village of beautiful Victorian Houses is home to the Chautauqua Institution that presents concerts, lectures and theater. This is primarily a summer place and usually shuts down during the winter. You don’t have to attend a concert to enjoy Chautauqua because the town is very charming and has many different specialty stores you can visit. Check the Chautauqua website for performances during the time you will be in Buffalo.
Ellicottville
Ellicottville, New York is a few miles away from Buffalo and you can enjoy activities in this town all year round. There are places to golf in the summer and it transforms itself into a nice ski area in the winter. Ellicottville is right on the edge of the Allegany State Park so be sure to pack your hiking shoes or bring your bike and hit one of the many bike trails through the park.
Finger Lakes
The Finger Lakes are a little further away but this area is do-able in a day. There are about 90 wineries that grow and process grapes all around the Finger Lakes. There is something about the soil there that makes the grapes grow suitable to making wine. Corning, New York is the home of the Corning Museum of Glass that is well worth the trip in itself. There are also several glass blowers in town that make wonderful glass art you can purchase.
Make sure to visit these other places when you go to Buffalo, New York. You’ll be missing out if you don’t.
