Getting Around

Buffalo benefits from a comprehensive public transportation system that reaches virtually most communities in Erie and Niagara Counties. The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's Metro Bus and Rail system operates a number of hubs in which passengers can easily transfer between bus and rail routes.

Service operates DAILY in the City of Buffalo, with less frequent or no service to some outer areas on weekends and certain holidays. The fare varies from $1.50 - 2.25 depending on the distance travelled (zone crossing).

Driving on Expressways

The Buffalo Niagara region has an expressway network that connects drivers to various points relatively quickly and easily. Funnily enough, the term "Freeway" is not used in Buffalo and many other area surrounding it. If you use the term freeway, you might get a funny look from a local. The locals call them "expressways" or "thruways" — get the vocabulary right and asking for directions becomes a lot easier.
