Getting There

By air: The Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) is 5 miles south of downtown, about 15 minutes by car. It's a small airport with direct connections to major US hubs — New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Charlotte, Washington, Boston — plus some seasonal routes. Getting from the airport to downtown is easiest by taxi or rideshare; there's no train or rapid transit link.

By car: Rochester sits on Interstate 90 (the New York State Thruway), making it easily drivable from Buffalo (90 minutes west), Syracuse (90 minutes east), and Toronto (about 2.5 hours via the Peace Bridge crossing). Parking downtown is plentiful and inexpensive by big-city standards.

By train: Amtrak's Empire Service connects Rochester to New York Penn Station (approximately 6 hours) and to Buffalo (about 1.5 hours), with stops at Syracuse and Albany along the way. The Rochester Amtrak station is a few miles from downtown; a taxi or rideshare is needed to reach the centre.

By bus: Greyhound and Trailways serve Rochester from Buffalo, Syracuse, and New York City. Journey times from New York City are 6–7 hours.
