Villa Lewaro is the Italianate mansion built in 1918 for Madam C. J. Walker, the cosmetics entrepreneur often cited as America's first self-made Black female millionaire. The red-tiled house is a landmark of Black wealth and ambition in the early 20th century, designed to impress in a part of Westchester better known for old-money estates.
Access can be limited, so treat it as a historic architecture stop rather than a guaranteed house tour. Even from outside, it adds a different story to the Hudson Valley mansion trail.
