Moogseum

The Moogseum is a small interactive museum dedicated to Bob Moog, the engineer who built the first widely-used analogue synthesiser. It opened in 2019 just off Pack Square, very close to where the Moog factory still operates. The exhibits are unusually hands-on: visitors can build patches on a giant modular synth, mess with theremins, and trace the history of electronic music from early oscillators to modern modular setups.

It is small — an hour is enough — but worth a stop even for visitors who think they have no interest in synthesisers. The shop sells a good selection of records and Moog merchandise.

A story
Bob Moog moved his synthesiser factory to Asheville in 1978 after a falling-out with his earlier business partners and lived here until his death in 2005. He worked on the first commercial Theremin before he was eighteen and effectively invented the modern electronic synthesiser by the time he was thirty.
