The Carolina Theatre opened in 1927 as a 2,200-seat vaudeville and movie palace. It is the last of Greensboro's historic theatres still operating, and a recent restoration brought back much of the elaborate Italian Renaissance interior — gold leaf, plaster ornament, the velvet curtains, the original Wurlitzer organ.
The current programme mixes classic films, indie cinema, live concerts, and the occasional touring play. Worth a look from outside even if no event is on, and any showing inside is a small event in itself.
