This bright-yellow concrete clamshell on Sprague Street is the last surviving example of a short-lived 1930s Shell Oil branding experiment — a chain of eight shell-shaped service stations built around the country to make the company's logo literal. It is the only one left and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
It no longer pumps petrol. Quality Oil Company restored the building in 1976 and uses it as a small office and roadside curiosity. There is nothing inside to see, but as roadside Americana it is a perfect five-minute stop on the way out of town.
