Chillicothe was Ohio's first state capital and the centre of the prehistoric Hopewell culture, and most of what brings a visitor here connects to one or the other. The big draw is the earthwork mounds of the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, scattered across half a dozen sites around the city. Add the Adena Mansion, a long-running outdoor drama, and a walkable historic downtown, and Chillicothe makes a perfectly good day or weekend stop on the way through southern Ohio.
