Washington Park

Washington Park sits at the heart of Over the Rhine, directly facing Music Hall and surrounded by the neighbourhood's best restaurants and bars. The redesigned park has become the social centre of the revitalised district — a green space with a bandshell, a spray park for children, and a large dog area, open and active from early morning until late at night.

The Christmas market held here in December is one of the better ones in the Midwest, drawing on the neighbourhood's German heritage. Summer evenings the park fills with people spilling out of the surrounding bars, and during weekend concerts it becomes effectively an outdoor extension of Music Hall's programming.

A story
Washington Park was redesigned in 2012 as part of Over the Rhine's broader revitalisation. During the excavation for an underground car park beneath the park, workers discovered several thousand human remains — the park had been built over a nineteenth-century burial ground. The remains were reinterred before construction continued.
