Geneva-on-the-Lake is a small Lake Erie resort village in far northeastern Ohio. It is proudly old-fashioned: arcades, grills, doughnuts, mini-golf, lake views, and summer crowds moving slowly along the Strip.
This is not a subtle destination, and it is not trying to be one. The appeal is the mix of Ohio's oldest summer-resort tradition, a real state park shoreline, and the Grand River Valley wine country just inland. If you are already in Cleveland, Ashtabula, or the Lake Erie islands area, Geneva-on-the-Lake can make a useful low-pressure day.
Come in season or do not bother. Outside summer many businesses close and the village loses the noisy, nostalgic quality that makes it work.
