A car is essential for getting around Ardmore and reaching the surrounding attractions. The city itself is modest in size and easy to navigate, but Lake Murray State Park (about 8 miles south on US-77), the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur (about 30 miles north), and Lake Texoma (about 25 miles southeast) all require driving.
Downtown Ardmore is compact enough to walk once you have parked, and the courthouse square and nearby blocks are a pleasant place to stretch your legs. There is no meaningful public transit beyond the Amtrak stop. Ride-hailing apps operate in town but coverage can be inconsistent. Rental cars are available locally and at the major airports in OKC and DFW.
