When To Go

Spring (March–May) is the most rewarding time to visit Ardmore and the surrounding region. Temperatures are mild, the Arbuckle hills are green, and wildflowers — including Indian paintbrush — color the roadsides. Lake Murray fills up with boaters and anglers as the weather warms. Be aware that spring is also Oklahoma's severe weather season; tornadoes are possible, so keep an eye on forecasts.

Summer is hot and humid, with temperatures regularly above 95°F (35°C) in July and August. The lakes are popular for water sports, but sightseeing is best done in early morning or evening. Fall brings comfortable temperatures and a second bloom of activity at the state parks. Winters are mild by northern standards — snow is rare and seldom sticks — making Ardmore an accessible destination year-round.
