The Puterbaugh Center, originally the Garrard Ardeneum, is McAlester's main civic performance venue. It hosts the McAlester Community Concert Series, the local Little Theatre, and a steady programme of touring shows aimed at southeastern Oklahoma. The brick-and-stone building dates from the early twentieth century and has been repeatedly renovated.
It is worth checking the schedule if you are passing through: small Oklahoma towns often punch above their weight on touring music, and the Puterbaugh's acoustic is surprisingly good for a building of its age.
