Milk Bottle Grocery

A six-metre-tall sheet-metal milk bottle perched on top of an absurdly small triangular building wedged between two diverging streets on Classen Boulevard, in the Asia District. Built in 1948, the bottle is one of the more endearing surviving roadside attractions on Route 66 (the road formerly known as Route 66 passes through Classen at this point) and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

A two-minute stop on the way to or from Asia District restaurants. The building below is currently a Vietnamese sandwich shop — get a bahn mi to go and eat it in the parking lot, looking up at the bottle.

A story
The bottle was put up in 1948 to advertise local dairies and has been adopted by every business that has occupied the tiny triangular building below it. The current tenants have been a Vietnamese sandwich shop for over a decade, which means the giant bottle now advertises bahn mi rather than milk.
