World's Largest Gas Pump

A 66-foot-tall painted steel gas pump stands on the old Route 66 alignment just north of downtown Sapulpa, in front of the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum. It is exactly the kind of oversized roadside Americana that the Mother Road inspired, and Sapulpa has wisely doubled down — the surrounding plaza has been redeveloped with murals, an old neon sign collection, and a tourist information booth.

The auto museum behind the pump is a small but well-curated collection of 1930s–60s automobiles and Route 66 memorabilia, open Wednesday through Saturday. Free to wander the outside; small admission for the museum interior. About a five-minute drive from downtown.

A story
The 66-foot-tall steel sculpture stands beside the old gas station building of the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum, on the original 1915 alignment of what would become US-66. It was installed in 2007 by museum founder Tony Kotwica and certified by Guinness as the world's largest. Real gas pumps top out at about 8 feet.
