Astoria is about 160km northwest of Portland by road, roughly a two-hour drive via US Highway 30 along the Columbia River, or via US 26 and US 101 along the coast. The Columbia River Highway (30) is the more scenic route, following the river through the Columbia River Gorge and then west through small river towns.
There is no commercial air service to Astoria — the nearest airport is Portland International (PDX). Greyhound and Northwest Point bus services connect Astoria to Portland and other Oregon coast towns. Amtrak does not serve Astoria. If you are travelling without a car, the bus is your only option; services are limited and the journey takes about three hours.
