Astoria's climate is classically Pacific Northwest: mild, wet, and grey for much of the year. Summer — July through September — is the driest and best time to visit, with temperatures in the mid-teens to low twenties Celsius and long daylight hours. Even in summer, mornings can be foggy and evenings cool; bring layers regardless of the season.
The Astoria Regatta, held in August since 1894, is one of the oldest festivals in Oregon, with boat races on the Columbia, a parade, and waterfront events. The Fisher Poets Gathering in February is a well-regarded literary and musical festival celebrating maritime and fishing culture, drawing writers and musicians from fishing communities across the Pacific Northwest.
