A car is almost essential in Bend — distances are spread out and the surrounding trails, parks, and ski area are not accessible without one. Downtown and the Old Mill District are walkable, and the city has a decent network of cycling paths, but most visitors rent a car at the airport.
Cascades East Transit runs local bus routes within Bend and connects to Redmond and other nearby communities. The Cascade Peaks Express is a seasonal bus service to Mount Bachelor and Sunriver. Lyft and Uber operate in Bend but coverage can be thin in some areas.
