Bend enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year — the Cascade Range blocks most of the Pacific rain, leaving central Oregon dry and bright. This makes it a genuine four-season destination, though each season has a different character.
Summer (June–September) is the most popular time, with warm days for hiking, paddling, and mountain biking. Temperatures stay comfortable — upper 70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit — without the humidity of the coast. The Cascade Lakes are swimmable in July and August.
Winter brings snow to Mount Bachelor, typically from November through April, with the peak skiing months being January through March. The city itself sits at 3,600 feet and gets occasional snow but rarely stays cold for long.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons — fewer crowds, lower prices, and the landscape is beautiful. Spring brings wildflowers in the high desert; fall turns the aspens gold along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway.
