Wild Pear is the kind of place every state capital wishes it had near the legislature — a bright, reliably good lunch spot that locals actually return to. The menu changes with the seasons and leans on local produce: expect Willamette Valley hazelnuts in the salads, Oregon bay shrimp on the sandwiches, and roasted beets from nearby farms.
The space on State Street fills up fast with government workers and Willamette University staff at midday; arrive before noon or after 1:30pm for a better chance at a table. The Chicken Hazelnut Salad is a recurring favourite and worth ordering if it's on the board.
Note that Wild Pear is lunch-only and closes in the afternoon. They also do catering, so the kitchen sometimes closes early if a big event takes priority — call ahead.
