The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show takes over the entire downtown on the second Saturday of July every year — quilts in every conceivable style hung from buildings, fences, awnings, and frames lining the streets. It started in 1975 as a small fundraiser for the Stitchin' Post quilt shop and has grown into the largest outdoor quilt show in the world, drawing tens of thousands of visitors and serious quilters from across North America.
The display is free to walk through; the surrounding multi-day program of classes, talks, and special exhibitions has tickets and books up months in advance. If you plan to visit Sisters during the show, reserve accommodation in the area a year ahead — every room in town and the surrounding ranches sells out, and prices spike. For the rest of the year, the Stitchin' Post remains open as a working quilt shop on Hood Avenue.
