Suttle Lake

Glacial lake on Santiam Pass, popular for swimming, kayaking, and lakeside camping

Suttle Lake is a long, narrow glacial lake just off Highway 20 about 25 kilometres west of Sisters, set into pine forest at the foot of Mount Washington and Three Fingered Jack. The water is clear, cold, and excellent for swimming on a hot summer day; non-motorized boats and small motorboats (with strict horsepower limits) are allowed and the lake is well-suited to canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards.

The Suttle Lodge on the south shore is a substantially restored 1920s resort with a restaurant and lakeside cabins, a popular weekend destination from Portland and Bend. Three Forest Service campgrounds ring the lake; reserve well in advance for summer. A 6-kilometre loop trail circles the lake and is easy to do in a half-day.
