Sisters Rodeo Grounds

One of the oldest professional rodeos in the Pacific Northwest, held every June

The Sisters Rodeo Grounds, southeast of town off Highway 20, host the annual Sisters Rodeo — a four-day PRCA professional rodeo in early June with all the standard events: bull riding, bareback bronc, saddle bronc, team roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling. It has been running since 1940 and is one of the longer-established rodeos in the Pacific Northwest. Tickets sell out and accommodation books up months in advance.

Outside of rodeo week the grounds host occasional smaller events — youth rodeos, fairs, the Stage Stop event in autumn. The site itself is just a permanent arena with bleacher seating, and there is no reason to visit when nothing is on. Check the event calendar before planning a stop.

A story
The Sisters Rodeo started in 1940 as a local cowboy gathering and has run most years since (with breaks during World War II). It is now a four-day Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association event in the second weekend of June, drawing top competitors on the rodeo circuit and turning the rodeo grounds into the largest temporary settlement in Deschutes County for the week.
