Lititz Moravian Historic District

The historic district occupies the original Moravian-planned town centre — laid out in 1756 around the Moravian Church and the central square. Most of the houses on East Main Street and Church Square date from the 18th and early 19th centuries, in the simple, symmetrical style the Moravians brought from central Europe.

The district is a National Historic Landmark, registered both for its architecture and for its remarkable continuity — the Moravian congregation that founded the town still owns much of the surrounding land. The Lititz Historical Foundation runs the small museum and arranges occasional guided walks; even without a guide, a self-led stroll through the streets gives a strong feel for early American town planning.
