Lititz is a small town of about 10,000 in the northern hills of Lancaster County. Founded by Moravians in 1756, it has a main street that retains much of its old-world charm — brick facades, wide sidewalks, antique shops, and small cafes that feel genuinely local rather than assembled for tourists. The whole core of the town is a National Historic District, anchored by the 1787 Moravian Church.
Two food landmarks make Lititz worth the detour. The Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery, the oldest commercial pretzel bakery in America, offers hands-on tours where you can twist your own pretzel by hand. A few blocks away, the Wilbur Chocolate Company's candy store sells chocolate that has been made in Lititz since 1900. Both are unpretentious and fun.
Lititz Springs Park in the center of town hosts one of Pennsylvania's most distinctive Fourth of July celebrations: at dusk, thousands of candles are floated on the spring-fed creek, and the whole town gathers to watch them drift past. The park is pleasant year-round, and the walk along the creek into the surrounding residential streets gives a good sense of how quietly handsome this place is.
